Repairs
of stained / leaded / beveled glass panels account for a significant
portion of our business. While typically a durable component of
a building's architecture, trauma to the glass and channel or
age related fatigue to the metal skeleton (panel may no longer
be flat) may require some level of repair. Repairs may be as simple
as a single piece replacement on site, re-attachment of the support
bars to the panel, or a complete "re-lead", where the
original panel is taken apart, glass cleaned and panel re-built
with new channel to match the original assembly. Many times an
antique panel may simply become porous due to the loss of the
weatherproofing grout that was applied when the panel was originally
built. This is an easy fix as we can re-grout to seal all gaps
and strengthen the panel's structure.
We
tend to be conservative in our approach to repairs of antique
art glass panels - repairing only what is necessary to maintain
the original assembly. When a panel requires an in shop repair,
we can provide an efficient "Remove and Board-up service"
and a fast repair turn-around.
